Boulder County Public Safety Listening Session at CPWD
Last Saturday morning, I was at the Center for People with Disabilities office in Boulder. Craig Towler, Community Engagement Coordinator, had reached out to the city police and fire departments to create a discussion between the city staff and the Disability Community.
The city independent police monitor, representatives from Boulder City Police and Fire met with a group of people living with disabilities in the Boulder community. It was a great conversation and opportunity for both sides to learn about the other.
There were members from the Blind, Deaf and Autistic communities along with individuals with a diversity of disabilities.
For advocates of the independent living philosophy, this Public Safety Listening Session was a huge step in the right direction.
Not only did I learn a lot, but I was honored to witness a great sharing of knowledge and experience. I hope that Boulder County continues its pursuit of inclusion with all communities.
